After ~20 papers, economists' verdict: AI hasn't hit aggregate labor market yet, but junior white-collar hiring may already be sliding

Economists @FutureEconJacob and @alexolegimas reviewed roughly 20 papers and conclude that AI has not yet affected the labor market in aggregate — unemployment and layoff data show almost nothing.
But one signal stands out: in white-collar jobs most exposed to AI, junior hiring may already be declining. The authors note that the rise of remote work could explain part of that drop, meaning the cause may not be AI alone.
The thread expands on the evidence and serves as a useful index of the current state of AI-and-jobs research.
