A long-read profile of systems engineer Justine Tunney (jart): teenage BBS-era developer, digital backbone of Occupy Wall Street, ex-Google (TensorBoard/SRE), then five years solo building Cosmopolitan Libc—its Actually Portable Executable format makes one binary run natively on six OSes as PE, ELF, Mach-O and shell script at once. She then combined it with llama.cpp to ship llamafile with Mozilla in November 2023: wrap any GGUF weights in one double-clickable file that runs an LLM on any OS with no Python, CUDA or dependency setup—arguably the easiest way to run LLMs locally.
