Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, speaking on Reuters, projected that global token demand — around 31.7 billion per 10 seconds in 2026 — will grow 40x to 1.27 trillion per 10 seconds by 2030.
He attributes the explosion to AI shifting from human-paced interaction to agent-paced activity: every useful agent action carries a hidden bill — carrying context, updating memory, interpreting sensor data, and catching mistakes before they become costly — all of which compounds inference compute demand.
