claude-paint: open-source Rust oil-paint simulator that teaches Claude to paint
teortaxesTex · x · 2026-09-29
claude-paint is an open-source physical oil-paint simulator written in Rust, with Claude painting at a virtual easel: simulated bristles carry wet paint over primed linen, paint levels and dries in real time, layers combine via Kubelka–Munk optics, and paint comes only from knife-mixed piles of named tubes.
The engine (canvas, ground, bristles, wet paint, drying, pigments, cracks) lives in crates/paint; crates/easel exposes a live Lua session where the painter (the model) writes Lua to paint, using badlogic's pi harness. Includes a painting guide, working journal, and sourced notes on paint physics.
