AMD to acquire Fei-Fei Li's World Labs for ~$8.2B in all-stock deal

AMD announced an all-stock acquisition of Fei-Fei Li's spatial-intelligence startup World Labs for roughly $8.2B, expected to close by end of 2026. Li will become AMD EVP & Chief Scientist reporting to Lisa Su.
Key assets:
- 70-person team; acquired SceniX in July for robotics simulation
- Atlas, a novel omni-modal architecture predicting new camera views from 2D images, beating specialized SOTA and advancing sparse reconstruction
- Applications span RL environments for robots, therapy/entertainment scene generation, and real-world reconstruction
Li says spatial intelligence needs tight hardware integration to scale; Su was an early investor and both companies collaborated for a year on AMD GPU training and inference. AMD gains visibility into inference, robotics, and physical-AI workloads to shape future hardware — an ecosystem counterpunch against Nvidia.
