Per an unconfirmed report by @rohanpaulai, AMD has agreed to acquire Fei-Fei Li's World Labs for roughly $8.2B in stock, with Li installed as chief scientist.
- The price is 64% above the $5B valuation discussed in World Labs' $1B February round, which both AMD and Nvidia joined
- World Labs gains the compute and engineering depth its world-model research demands; AMD picks up 70 researchers building robotics and 3D simulation models, giving it early insight into those workloads to shape future chips and systems
- With AMD shares nearly tripling this year to about $1T market cap, the stock deal costs under 1% of the company — and mirrors Nvidia's playbook of bundling models and services with hardware to strengthen its data-center pitch
