Opus 5.5 Is Deliberately Squeezing Budget Users, VC Argues — 'There Is No Single Model'
StewartalsopIII · x · 2026-09-29
VC Stewart Alsop III says the Opus 5.5 release wrecked his scheme of covering both Codex and Claude on two $100 plans. He estimates it's 75% by design and 25% a shot at OpenAI to convince them they can't ship a $400 plan.
His broader take:
- "A single model" is a marketing trick customers should actively be wary of — there is no single model
- Only inference unit economics and margins are real, and those won't be known until IPO
