People use AI to find products but not to buy them: inside the agentic commerce trust gap
iubenda_team · reddit · 2026-09-29
People happily use AI to find and compare products but mostly won't let an agent complete the purchase. PwC calls this trust gap the next barrier to agentic commerce. The jump isn't technical—it's delegating judgment. Failure modes are messy: misread return policies, fooled by product-page text, double orders—and it's unclear whether the merchant or AI provider answers for mistakes. The emerging pattern: people delegate the work, not the decision, as long as they can see what the agent knows, set its boundaries, and reach a human when it fails.
