Developer aloncarmel shares Kehilot (yadkehilot.com), a project digitizing Yizkor memorial books written by survivors of Holocaust-destroyed Jewish communities.
- 8 communities have been "revived" so far, with hundreds of volumes still waiting in archives; reading requires no account
- Pipeline: scanned pages (mostly Yiddish/Hebrew) are recovered via OCR without altering the original text, then AI extracts people, families, places, institutions and events into a graph, each entry linked back to the exact passage that names it
- Users can search a family, ask questions or translate passages — every answer opens back to the original page; families can also create memorial plates tied to the records
- Inspired by Ori Meiselman, who dedicated his next decade to preserving these forgotten small communities
