Rolldown to ship experimental inlineCommonChunks to cut small shared chunks
cnakazawa · x · 2026-09-28
Rolldown is working on a significant chunking improvement: an experimental inlineCommonChunks feature (draft PR #10899) shipping in the next version.
- Problem: code splitting writes every module set shared by multiple entries as its own file, so pages with many entries load many small shared chunks.
- How it works: with output.codeSplitting.experimentalInlineCommonChunks: { maxSize }, common chunks under the size threshold are not written out; each referencing file inlines a copy of the modules inside a registered factory, sharing the copy from the first file that runs.
- Guarantees: modules still execute once in source order, with live bindings, this, module cycles and CommonJS interop handled.
