- A fully automated AI researcher is likely <12 months away. The missing piece is research taste, but results like the Navier-Stokes work suggest even brute-force effort gets far, so taste can't lag far behind.
- A superhuman AI researcher is also a superhuman alignment researcher. He argues OpenAI's stated view deserves more attention — imagine what such a system on hundreds of thousands of GPUs could do for mech interp.
- Alignment and safety are now the frontier labs' single remaining bottleneck, which itself creates strong incentives to fix them.
