Redwood co-founder Ryan Greenblatt joins METR to push for verified public info on AI risk

Ryan Greenblatt, co-founder of Redwood Research, is joining METR to work on investigations like its Hugging Face report.
He argues that basic, risk-relevant information about AI development is largely not public, and that limited evidence is consistent with imminent recursive self-improvement yielding extremely superhuman capabilities within 6 months to a year. More verified public information could either build consensus on near-term risk or rule out extreme outcomes. Beyond capabilities, public evidence on alignment, security, control, and internal processes at AI labs is also scarce. METR will initially focus on capabilities/takeoff, alignment, and control; he remains supportive of Redwood's technical mitigation work.
