Cursor Ditches Server-Side RAG for Grep-Like Agent Tool Calls in Code Search

Per a July 20 notice, Cursor no longer computes embeddings of your code or stores vector indexes on its servers for search — code retrieval now relies on Grep-like agent tool calls. Turbopuffer's ecosystem lead confirmed Cursor moved away from vector-based code retrieval. The shift signals that with stronger long-context models and agentic search, server-side RAG over codebases is being abandoned.
