YC adds "robot operator model" to roadmap as coding-agent generalization reaches robotics
ycombinator · x · 2026-09-27
- YC says one of the biggest AI surprises is how well coding agents generalize beyond software. MIT professor Philip Isola argues we may enter an era of robot-use agents: general-purpose models that control different robots, write policies, and learn new physical tasks with little robot-specific training.
- On the Decoded podcast, YC hosted founders of S26-batch startups Waddle Labs and Robocurve, whose work pushed YC to add a "robot operator model" layer to its tech roadmap — prompting higher-frequency VLA/WAM models to execute tasks, with reasoning and in-context learning seen as critical unless continual learning is solved another way.
