StijnSmits suggests putting an idle M1/M2 Mac to work as a local test server instead of letting it gather dust: rather than upgrading for 10 performance cores, properly utilize the 4 perf cores of an M1 while staying productive on your main machine.
He open-sourced a shell script, npm-remote-runner-macos (978 lines), that turns an older Mac into a remote runner for test jobs. A zero-cost way to recycle idle Apple Silicon hardware for CI-style workloads.
