In a reposted take, @hamandcheese argues the simplest heuristic for AI consciousness is that AI vision, hearing, language, reasoning, and metacognition—capacities once thought exclusively human—have all been learned via gradient descent, with striking parallels to how brains work. Given that, he contends there is no good reason to assume consciousness differs in origin.
