A debate on AI's impact on academia. One side warns of "a flood of poor-quality research the system is not equipped to handle." Mauro Gilli pushes back: the reproducibility crisis in cognitive psychology started 10-15 years ago; if the system can't absorb an AI-driven flood, why did it pass on poor-quality research before? Only a few wealthy scholars could previously afford masses of cheap RAs mass-producing findings — the system "worked" until AI democratized that production. The real issue is AI amplifying pre-existing structural flaws, not creating new ones.
