After 4-5 days replacing Claude with locally-run Qwen 3.8 Next via opencode on an M1 Ultra (128GB), the author reports little is missing: slower than Claude, but free and self-controlled, handling research and business tasks with a custom harness. DeepSeek V4 0731 and GLM Flash didn't outperform Qwen in his tests. His takeaway: a Mac Studio plus open models can replace a billion-dollar company's service.
