Anthropic: Claude solves nine-loop scattering amplitudes, breaking the eight-loop record
AnthropicAI · x · 2026-09-26
Anthropic reports that Claude, given a single prompt and an academic-scale compute budget, ran largely unsupervised for days in Claude Science and pushed scattering amplitude calculations to nine loops in planar N=4 super-Yang-Mills — beating the previous eight-loop record set by SLAC's Lance Dixon and collaborators. Most practical calculations stop at two or three loops, as each added loop multiplies computation. The feat answered a challenge from physicist-writer @4gravitons issued last month.
