Your data stack is about to get less forgiving: agents turn stale data into wrong actions

Ben Lorica argues that agents remove the human buffer between data and action, so old data problems become new risks. Agents need to know not what's relevant but what's true right now — did the payment clear, is the inventory still there. A procurement agent querying a stale replica can double-order stock. Definition ambiguity (e.g., what counts as an "active customer") also trips agents that won't stop to ask. Conclusion: agent-era data stacks must enforce freshness, semantic consistency, and lineage, or AI failures will really be data failures.
