A Brookings Papers on Economic Activity (Fall 2026) paper, "Financing the AI buildout" by Columbia's Stijn Van Nieuwerburgh, projects US investment in data center buildings and power infrastructure will total $10.3 trillion by 2032 — about 3.6% of GDP per year — and warns of correction risk.
