DHH says he's done writing code by hand: 'English is a better programming language than Ruby'
The Decoder · rss · 2026-09-25
David Heinemeier Hansson, creator of Ruby on Rails, revealed at Rails World 2026 that he has stopped writing code by hand — not a single line typed since March 2026 — declaring that "English is a better programming language than Ruby."
The shift is striking: just a year earlier DHH was pushing back against AI coding. Now he calls it "the biggest thing that has happened in the history of computing." After 25 years as one of the most vocal hand-coding advocates in software, his turnaround marks a symbolic moment for AI-assisted development.
