Google DeepMind engineer quits over AI chip work: "AI is already progressing too fast"

Engineer rocallahan announced his resignation from Google, saying he loved the work and people, but his GDM team was building a new generation of chips to make AI much faster and cheaper. Believing AI is already progressing too fast, he felt compelled to quit — calling it "a principled decision in a dangerous situation."
