A researcher says a Silicon Valley startup raised $40M and shipped a decision model built on an idea he'd published a year earlier. After his Reddit post with the paper and GitHub blew up, he trained Laya overnight (12-15 hours on top of years of research), released it open source and self-hostable, and it hit #1 trending on Hugging Face.
