Father of surgical robotics Russell Taylor wins 2027 IEEE Robotics Award

Johns Hopkins professor Russell Taylor, widely called the father of surgical robotics, will receive the 2027 IEEE Robotics and Automation Award for his contributions, leadership, and translation of surgical and medical robotics. Nominated by Stanford's Allison Okamura, Taylor saw four decades ago that computers could make surgery safer and led an NSF-funded engineering research center on computer-integrated surgery.
