SciUniverse: AI-run research facility benchmarks frontier models on real lab science

c5rcorp introduces SciUniverse, a benchmark measuring AI's ability to do real-world scientific research. In 12 weeks the team built a research facility run entirely by AI, where models design, execute, and observe experiments end-to-end across biology, chemistry, and materials science.
The sharer notes frontier models have made big strides in code and math but not yet in the lab, and SciUniverse aims to close that evaluation gap by letting frontier models control an actual research facility and benchmarking their abilities at bio, chem, and materials.
