Magnetic quadruped robot welds and inspects shipyard hulls, climbing vertical steel walls
LexiLove · x · 2026-09-25
DIDEN Robotics unveiled a quadruped robot for welding and inspection in shipyards, using electromagnetic permanent magnets in its feet to walk on vertical walls and curved steel structures.
The team also detailed the engineering challenge: welding arcs can generate kilovolt-level surges that couple into circuits, causing comms errors or board restarts. Their fix is staged protection — front-end energy absorption, high-frequency filtering, galvanic isolation, plus a threshold-triggered frame-ground discharge path — with welding return paths kept separate from control grounds at the design stage.
