Google's "Suncatcher" project plans to run AI infrastructure in orbit on solar power, starting with a fridge-sized experimental satellite launching on a SpaceX Falcon 9 on October 1. The hurdles are steep: matching a single 1-gigawatt data center on Earth would require roughly 10,000 satellites, and Jeff Bezos estimates it could take 20 years before orbital data centers beat ground-based ones on cost.
