DeepMind essay: AGI will arrive as 'symbiotic intelligence' from societies of agents

A new Google DeepMind Institute essay by Blaise Agüera y Arcas, James Manyika and Benjamin Bratton argues AGI won't be a single isolated superintelligence. Today's most capable AI setups are already multi-model frameworks using division of labor, so AGI will likely emerge from cooperative networks of human and synthetic minds — shifting the core problem from building smarter machines to orchestrating and governing complex human-AI ecosystems. Drawing on analogies from multicellularity to cultural evolution, the authors frame intelligence itself as a social phenomenon.
