Pollen Robotics, partnering with Hugging Face, has opened preorders (starting August 27, 2026) for Microduck, a 25cm open-source biped robot priced at $399 before taxes and shipping.
Key details:
- Open-source hardware, playable out of the box; every behavior is a reinforcement-learning policy you can retrain yourself
- sim2real pipeline: train in physics simulation (locally or on Hugging Face Jobs), deploy to the real robot in one step
- Full loop: train in sim → deploy → refine and retrain → publish policies to the community
- Built-in behaviors: velocity-tracking walking gait, sit & stand, kick, beak scooping grab, roller skating, self-recovery from falls
A web simulator of the training twin is already live.
