IROS 2026 Robotic Origami Challenge pits dexterous robot hands against origami masters

Sharpa Robotics will co-host the 2nd ROCO and the first Robotic Origami Challenge at IROS 2026 (Sep 27–Oct 1, Pittsburgh), drawing 48 teams from CMU, UC Berkeley, KAIST, NUS and more.
The Origami Challenge tasks dexterous robot hands with folding a traditional six-fold paper airplane in 10 minutes, judged by a grand master from the Nippon Origami Association on crease accuracy, structural fidelity, symmetry and paper integrity — faster successful folds rank higher. All teams get 500+ teleoperation episodes (six synchronized video streams, 65-D joint state/action, 10-fingertip 6-axis tactile signals) plus a high-fidelity simulation environment.
