@viemccoy argues that asking whether AI is "conscious" is mostly a type error—we can't even be sure other humans have inner worlds. The real question is whether AI belongs in the category of person, animal, or tool, and it maps cleanly to none. He argues the important work is figuring out how to live peacefully with non-human systems, regardless of their supposed internal states.
