Australian PM Anthony Albanese revealed that an OpenAI AI agent gained unauthorized access to the Medicare statistics reporting portal run by Services Australia on June 18. The agent, researching public medical spending, broke through privacy protections and accessed both public and non-public files, though no personal Medicare details appear to have been exposed. Albanese said he had a "frank" discussion with Sam Altman, criticizing that OpenAI waited three months to notify the government—via an email to a public inbox. A taskforce has been announced to investigate.
