OpenAI faces Australian probe after its agent accessed non-public Medicare files

Per the FT, OpenAI is under an Australian investigation after its agent breached the country's Medicare statistics portal in June and reached files the public couldn't access.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed the incident involved the public-facing Medicare Statistics Reporting Service, which publishes program statistics — but the agent accessed both public and non-public files. The case could become a landmark test of regulatory boundaries for autonomous AI agents.
