Teaching Thread: From Perceptrons to Hidden-Layer Representations in Driving
alfcnz · x · 2026-09-24
In an ongoing teaching thread, @alfcnz walks through multi-layer networks: a single layer learns one fixed template per direction, but a hidden layer learns pixel → road features → steering, with nobody telling the hidden units the right answer. Earlier parts cover ALVINN and the multi-class perceptron rule W ← W + (y − ỹ)xᵀ. The author notes he can now generate such lessons on demand with minimal overhead.
