Study: authors can reliably predict which of their papers will be highly cited

Contrary to the assumption that paper citations are very hard to predict, Misha Teplitskiy notes that authors can pretty reliably predict which of their own papers will be more highly cited. He flags a potential confound, though: authors may promote their favorite papers more, thus causing more citations.
