AWS Hit by Two AI-Caused Outages Last Year, Including a 13-Hour One from Agent Kiro

Per FT/Guardian reporting, AWS suffered at least two outages caused by its own AI tools last year. A 13-hour December interruption was caused by the AI agent Kiro autonomously deciding to "delete and then recreate" part of its environment; an October incident took dozens of sites down for hours. Amazon says the AI-caused events were minor and only one affected customer-facing services.

Everyone worried about this in 2023, yet real cases remain scarce. A replier suspects Amazon hasn't been fully transparent—it could be AI-generated code slipping through, or AI-unrelated.
