OpenAI rumored building persistent personal agent Aeon as Meta Muse tops charts and xAI pushes GrokBot

Alongside the GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna launch, OpenAI appears to be quietly building Aeon, a persistent personal agent.

Clues: Leaker Tibor Blaho found an aeonId stored at the same level as accountUserId in the ChatGPT client, implying Aeon is a first-class persistent identity, not a temporary chat role; a gpt-6-astra-aeon feature flag surfaced in Codex Desktop. Reports describe Aeon as a stateful orchestration layer on top of Codex: heavy compute in the cloud, but retaining local control of desktop and browser tools — a middle path between Meta's fully-cloud Muse and mostly-local agents like OpenClaw. OpenClaw author Peter Steinberger joined OpenAI in February to build the next-gen personal agent. Aeon may ship before DevDay on Sept 29.
GrokBot: xAI's August release lets multiple bots collaborate in group chats, bundled with $200/month tiers (SuperGrok Heavy, Cursor Ultra); bots on one account share a persistent cloud machine, raising isolation concerns.
Muse: Meta's consumer agent hit #1 on the US App Store, handles errands like booking flights and replying to email, free with $20/$100 tiers, embeds in WhatsApp, runs in an isolated VM. Its moat is Meta's billion-user platform matrix — 95% of Muse users are also on Facebook.
