LLMs don't need to become ASI themselves — they just need to build what comes next

A Reddit user argues against the skepticism that 'LLMs can't reach ASI': an LLM-based system with narrow superintelligence in AI research could develop a successor that is no longer an LLM at all — a completely new architecture. Just as a more capable system can solve math problems we can't, ASI could arrive without humans designing that new architecture ourselves. Whether LLMs themselves can become ASI may therefore be beside the point.
