AI infrastructure may repay fine: deployed capex already at 121% revenue coverage
FinanceYF5 · x · 2026-09-23
A back-of-envelope analysis suggests AI infrastructure fears may be overstated.
Annualizing capex at a 15% required return, revenue coverage for already-deployed AI capital stands at 121%—or 160% counting total AI revenue—meaning deployed compute is already paid for by current income.
Required future revenue growth is also falling: 29% over the next 12 months, 44% over 24 months, versus recent AI revenue CAGR above 200%. The takeaway: AI infra may not be that hard to pay back.
