arXiv Responds to Yaringal's Call to Ban LLM-Written Papers: We Detect But Don't Filter
yaringal · x · 2026-09-23
Prof. Yaringal argued arXiv should forbid LLM-written papers outright, rejecting flagged ones, and that authors should use LLMs to improve language rather than write papers. arXiv's Tom Dietterich replied that while LLM content is detected, it isn't filtered out — a flag simply signals the paper requires more careful scrutiny, and most authors use LLMs to improve writing, especially non-native English speakers.
