David Patterson: 10,000 Agents Solved a Conjecture — AI Is About to Replace Entire Organizations

Computer architecture luminary David Patterson pushes back on the idea that AI can only do tasks, not jobs. His argument: AI can initiate instances of itself to work on subtasks — sometimes thousands at once (agents). He cites a team of 10,000 agents recently solving the Navier-Stokes conjecture (an unverified claim worth treating cautiously).
He concludes this is equivalent to employing an entire organization of thousands, and that AI is on the verge of replacing whole jobs and whole organizations: "Don't be surprised when it happens."
