Qwen-Image-2.1 GGUF hits Hugging Face: offload text encoder to save 17GB VRAM
xiaohu · x · 2026-09-22
- A GGUF quantization of Qwen-Image-2.1 is now on Hugging Face (by abenzerps) for local generation in ComfyUI, with quants from Q40 (4.05GB) to Q80 (7.59GB); Q4KM is recommended for best size/quality balance.
- A practical memory trick: keep the main model on GPU and offload the 17.5GB Qwen3-VL 8B text encoder to CPU RAM (an Int8 version is 9.35GB), saving 9–17GB of VRAM with almost no speed loss.
- The model merges text-to-image and image editing in one, natively supports transparency and up to 10 reference images (e.g., compositing six portraits into one group photo), with notably better text rendering and more realistic skin, hair, and lighting.
- The poster highlights an uncensored/NSFW-capable version; the model card notes a fully uncensored build is in development and will be added to the repo soon.
