ChatGPT's web searches run 56% longer than Gemini's, analysis of 334K queries finds
prasanna_says · x · 2026-09-22
An analysis of 334,026 searches ChatGPT and Gemini ran before answering buying questions finds ChatGPT's queries average 8.83 words vs Gemini's 6.02 (56% longer), with 35.6% of ChatGPT queries hitting 10+ words versus 2.4% for Gemini and under 1% for human Google searches. ChatGPT starts broad and narrows; the gap held across a model change. Implication: pages optimized for short head terms now compete against hyper-specific engine-written long-tail queries buyers never see.
