AppLovin CEO says agentic shopping is overhyped: shoppers want the dopamine hit of buying themselves

AppLovin CEO Adam Foroughi argues agentic shopping is overhyped, since typical shoppers want the dopamine hit of buying things themselves rather than delegating purchases to agents.
He sees agents fitting only routine, consistent behaviors — e.g., handing a supplement subscription to an agent that optimizes and delivers it monthly. Discovery-based shopping platforms don't work that way.
Most consumers aren't early adopters sitting on Twitter chasing the latest tech: "our audience is the New York Times audience," and huge numbers still shop on legacy properties like Yahoo.
