Andrew Ng: pausing AI progress would do far more harm than good

Andrew Ng argues publicly against pausing AI progress on two grounds: adversaries certainly won't slow down, and engineering requires discovering problems empirically so they can be fixed. If AI were paused for a decade, finding and implementing safety engineering fixes would be delayed by roughly the same duration.
