Andrew Ng argues that while fear-mongering about AI has made huge headway in the past two weeks, the technology has not taken any unexpected dangerous turn — the panic looks like a well-orchestrated PR campaign, and he worries it sets the field back. He concedes it's rational to worry when insiders express concerns, but sees these as engineering problems ahead rather than insurmountable barriers, with poorly understood technical advances giving hype merchants repeated openings.
