38-letter deep dive: are organoids actually useful for Alzheimer's research?
owl_posting · x · 2026-09-22
Abhishaike Mahajan of Owl Posting publishes the final essay (3.8k words, 17 min read) in his organoid series, using Alzheimer's as a stress test for the technology's real value.
- His gut reaction: Alzheimer's may be the worst possible disease to model with organoids — it operates at large tissue scales, is partly a function of chronological age, and is measured by cognitive decline, while organoids are fetal, small, and probably can't think.
- But he warns against instinctive pessimism, walking through the disease's mechanism and the case for and against organoids in one of the hardest diseases to address.
- He also announces he's permanently relocating to San Francisco as his Public Data for Health program at the OpenAI Foundation launches with $125M+ in issued grants.
