Developer: AI agents now outproduce humans by an order of magnitude — IT will shrink first

A Reddit developer argues that models like Fable already produce useful work at least an order of magnitude beyond any human developer in real professional environments, handling multi-step autonomous tasks far beyond coding.
He pushes back on the 'AI output is slop' take: even if it takes two or three more years, once such models run at reasonable price, 90%+ of developers won't be needed. The hand-holding that remains is mostly a context problem — and it shrinks as companies digitize, document, and expose their workflows and institutional knowledge to agents, which AI itself will help automate.
His conclusion: other industries will follow, but IT shrinks to a small human core first — likely costing him his own job.
