On September 11, 25 Fields Medalists published a polemic declaring that AI companies' push to solve math problems as benchmarks is "detrimental to the science of mathematics" and severely misaligned with the math community's goals. Over 7,400 researchers endorsed the declaration within days — outpacing the more cautious June Leiden Declaration backed by the IMU.
